JAMES T. MARTIN
Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania

James T. Martin, 36, overseer, saved George Heal, 10, from drowning, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, January 27, 1908. Martin ran to the edge of a hole in the ice of Darling Street Pond 30 feet from the bank. As he was reaching for George, who had broken through with five other boys, the ice broke and precipitated him into water 10 feet deep. He grabbed George with one hand and, with the other, caught a rope, which had been thrown to him, and was pulled from the hole. 4121-375
